INDIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM:
ISN'T IT TO BE ADDRESSED?
I agree that I am no one capable to speak against our
education system but I think in all these 19 years I have observed that this
won’t help me deal with real life issues. I am not completely against Indian
education system but what I want to say is that our education is all about rote
memorization which further encourages cramming instead of lifelong learning.
Most of the teachers as well as the parents ask children to cram things and
score well in exams. Their main objective is all about being a topper by any
means. Why do these parents and teachers forget that cramming things and
scoring in turn will not make us a good human or a successful person?
I don’t know why I was taught about the number of masons
involved in building a monument or the birth dates of any random king or the
formulas of integration and differentiation. Will I have problems like these in
my real life? Will I get problems of write a program to add two numbers in real
life?
My boss won’t ask me to simplify an expression. Our
education system lacks the practicality instead it’s all about theoretical cramming.
And what I don’t like is that this is something that we all
know even then we stereotype all the toppers by referring to them as “muggers”
or “crammers”.
There is extreme pressure from family and society to use
education for financial security.
Societal pressure to get into the “ideal college” not only
for the education purpose but to ensure good job. Ever since our childhood we
are taught to study well then get into the “ideal college” and then get placed
to a good office and further get married which in turn means to be successful.
If someone is asked “what do you want to do?”
- “I want to be an actor or a painter”
Then they laugh and ask you to think practically. Dreams are
killed not nurtured.
No one is ready to encourage someone to take risk and follow
own interest. Failure is considered something uncommon or unusual and the ones
who face it are considered forever useless creatures.
Our mentality says educational achievement is the only thing
that matters to social standing.
There is extreme pressure due to limited seats resulting in
very intense competition between students.
Reservation system
Management quota
Education sector is closed to business or profit
organizations.
When we talk about Indian education system how can we forget
“coaching institutes”.
Coaching centres for admission to the IIT’s and other
engineering colleges has acquired the status of a big industry in India. According
to the associated chambers of commerce and industry, the size of the industry
is Rs. 10,000 crore which is more than Bollywood. Shocked? But it is the harsh reality.
Coaching industry is massively booming in India. Entrance
exam is a rat race and everyone wants to outshine others. Sometimes, school
plays the role of a mediator by providing the details of the students to these
coaching institutes.
Every year after the results, coaching centres display their
results on huge banners with photos of high scorers to show their success rate.
But if you actually count the number of these students then it will be more
than the actually candidates who appeared for the entrance. It is a trick to
attract the students and their parents to get into their institutes. Not every
institute does this, there are some institutes in our country who still believe
in ethics and honesty.
Our education system forces children to live a pressurized
life. All these children are asked is to score the highest.
There is lack of creativity. Since students are busy
thinking about v=u+at and y=mx+c and 50-60 other chemical reactions.
The major problem is there is lot of exam fear. They make
exams look like monsters and vampires who will kill these little lives instead it’s
just a process of failing or learning.
Why are we not taught about what is going to help us in
future? Why are we not taught about the actual procedure of paying tax or
reading a charge sheet or filing an FIR or anything that will help us? Any basic
governmental or law activities.
Why are we supposed
to learn all that which won’t help us?
There is no diversity in subjects. When we get out of
school, we can’t choose our favourite subjects instead we have a few packages
and we select one. That package might have only one subject I like what about
other subjects?
i am not completely against our education system instead i am just asking for a change. It is time to update it. #NeedsAChange
